Tyres are cured using the Cold Process in a fully automated IROP (Italy) autoclave with cartridge system

Are Retreads Safe ?

If conducted professionally following procedures, retread tyres are very safe. In fact, approx. 80% of all aircraft tyres in the U.S. are retreads. Aircraft companies average 6 retreads per tyre, with some tyres being retreaded as many as 12 times. Retread tyres are used everyday on school buses, fire engines, ambulances and by millions of motorists.

 

Why are there so many rubber on the road ?

There is a common myth that when people see rubber on the road, they immediately assume that it was caused by a retread failure.

The fact is that most of the tyre debris littered on the highways are caused by nail punctures and the failure of the truck driver to stop and get their tyre repaired or replaced. Unless it’s the front tyre, the truck driver, thinking there are 9 or 17 other tyres holding the vehicle together, will try to make it back to his destination where the tyre can be changed. So the truck keeps moving and the tyre by now is quickly falling apart and rubber is thrown all over the highway.

Other causes of tyre debris littered on the highways are under-inflation, overloading, mismatching of tyres and other improper maintenance.

In fact according to data collected by the “Tire Debris Task Force” (a group representing trucking companies, retreaders, new tyre manufacturers and government agencies in the U.S.) only 11 of the 1070 pieces or 1% of tyre debris gathered for analysis could be attributed to retread failure.
